Professor Vivekanand Jha

Professor Vivekanand Jha (MBBS, MD, DM, Ph.D., FRCP (edin) FAMS), has close to five decades of experience. He is currently Executive Director at The George Institute for Global Health. He is an MBBS from Patna University and received his MD, DM, Medicine, and Nephrology training from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. He was also a Professor of Nephrology at PGIMER for three decades and went on to establish the department of Translational and Regenerative Medicine at PGIMER, by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. In addition to all this as a professor, he taught Nephrology at the University of Oxford for seven years.

 

Professor Jha set up a basic science research laboratory in 2001 which went on to become India’s first such laboratory in the Nephrology division. In addition to these roles, Professor Jha has been actively involved in the professional societies of Nephrology at both national and international levels. He was on the Board of Directors of Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) for six long years and has served in various advisory groups for the World Health Organisation (WHO). He was also part of the Expert Committees for the Govt. of India, to develop policy and clinical practice guidelines for kidney disease treatment.
