Boost Your Immunity During Season Change

With the increasing pollution levels, exposure to chemicals, and the unpleasant viral infections & flu. It is very common to get cold, cough, fever, body ache, headache and other symptoms but with a good immunity one can overcome from these symptoms very easily. It is crucial to consult a doctor to find the underlying cause of these symptoms. Along with the prescribed medication and treatment, you can also try these home remedies to find relief.

Turmeric Milk: Also known as Haldi ka Doodh in India, is one of the oldest and most trusted home remedies for building immunity. Turmeric contains curcumin as an active compound which help in treating infections. Turmeric has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is Known as Golden Milk in the West, it is easy to prepare and highly effective. Drink 1 cup or as fluid restriction allowance before going to bed for the best results.

Clove: Eugenol which is a the naturally occurring substance in clove oil that has anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidant. It improves soreness in the throat. Useful in relieving from seasonal common cold & its symptoms. Can be consumed directly or can use clove oil.

Ginger: Ginger contains gingerol which eases dry or asthmatic cough due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It also relieves nausea and pain.  Prepare a soothing ginger tea by adding 5–10g of fresh ginger slices to a cup of boiling water. Allow it to steep for a few minutes before sipping. Add little honey (1gm- 2gms) or few drops of lemon juice (1-2 drop) to improve the taste and further soothe the cough.

Garlic & onion: Garlic & onion contains allin. This compounds help by mitigating inflammation and oxidative stress, maintaining gut microbiota, and enhancing physiological resilience. Thus provide overall good health & immunity. Can be incorporated easily to our curries, gravies & breakfast options.

Liquorice: Also known as mulethi in Hindi. The active compound in liquorice is glycyrrhizin acid which act as an excellent immune enhancer. Liquorice is good for treating sore throat & cough. A licorice mouthwash can help relieve dry mouth and increase saliva secretion in hemodialysis patients.

Masala ChaiMasala Chaior Spiced Tea is a common home remedy for dry cough, especially in Indian households. Apart from soothing throat irritation, the antioxidant qualities of cardamom and cloves help eliminate cough-triggering effects of pollution and dust particles. Just add black pepper, cinnamon powder, cardamom, and cloves while preparing tea, and sip while hot.

You can have all these but don’t forget to keep your fluid restriction under consideration.

If you haven’t noticed any improvement in your symptoms after 2 days, it is necessary to consult your doctor. Home remedies can be an added measure but not be a permanent solution for persistent symptoms.
